Schimonitz Family Reunion 2010

Friday August 6th, 2010 ~ It's time for the annual Schimonitz
family reunion at Lake McConaughy! The boys' were anxious
to get out there and to set up their new tent!

Friday evening was really enjoyable. A nice breeze and lots
of stars. Bernie and I 'roughed' it by sleeping in our Armada
since our 5th wheel camper is under repair. Ugh, was not
good on the 'ol back but we made do!

Cade and cousin Brooke patiently wait for breakfast Saturday
morning.

The meals are the same every year so we always look forward
to them. This morning it's scrambled eggs w/sausage and s.eggs
with ham cooked in the dutch ovens over an fire.

Garrett and Bernie doing the eggs.

and don't forget the dough jenny's!!

Cade pitches in. Everyone helps.

Tyler joins in too.

And I helped too! :) Cade took this picture. Atleast it was
my good side! ha ha

After breakfast Cade and cousin Mason played in the sand.

Cousin Fred and Denise came from Omaha. Was good to see
them and visit.

Garrett and cousin Dani got to spend some
time together over the weekend. She leaves
for college soon!

Time to get in the water! Cade is ready for some kneeboarding!

He did a great job and has lots of fun!

Garrett, Connor, Dani and Tyler were going to do some more
tubing but "big bertha" got a tear!

So Tyler did some kneeboarding instead!

Time for some volleyball!

Tyler and Connor.

Cade's turn to serve!

Go Bernie! They had quite a team gathered and a good game
going! I bet they played for 3 hours or more! Was a great way
to stay cool. Saturday was HOT!

There was lots of diving and splashing going on!
Everyone had a lot of fun! Friends Marlow and
Monica and their kids, Shelby and Justin came out
and enjoyed the afternoon with us too.

My nephew Mason had a lot of fun in the water all weekend!

Tyler and buddy Connor took a break from volleyball and
had fun in the water.

Dani and Garrett~I can still picture them
as little kids! Nothing like growing up with cousins!

Dani and Garrett getting ready to go tubing.

Poor Dani was pretty sore this weekend
from tubing with Garrett but they had fun!

Cade, Mason and another little guest took a turn tubing too.

Look at Cade's 'tan mark'! His face got pretty
red so he's a little sore but it's all part of it.

I'm a hurtin' unit myself!! This picture does no justice of how
sunburnt I am but if you look long enough you can see my
'raccoon eyes' and see just how burnt my nose and forehead
and chest and arms are! Ouch! When will I ever learn! I really
did try to stay out of the sun but it was just so hot!

Saturday evenings is our traditional turkey dinner that every
one looks forward too. The turkeys are cooked in a pit in the
sand with hot coals.

Yum!

Turkey, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, gravy and bread
all cooked in a pit or dutch ovens! Mmmmmm, we eat good!

Saturday evening was really pleasant too.

After supper it's time to crank the homemade
ice cream that gets served with the chocolate mud
cake and cobblers that are also cooked in dutch
ovens over a fire! YUM!!!

Sunday morning, it's time to get the bacon and sausage a fryin'!
Bernie, brother Ed and cousin Kevin get things going. Smells good!

Everyone helps. Garrett and cousin Fred pitch in too.

My nephew Remington helps stir the bacon.

Denise and Bernie's mom Grace whip up pancake batter.

We have 3 griddles of pancakes going. There's always a lot of food!

While waiting for breakfast, Connor and Tyler sum up how
everyone feels on the last day.....tired! The boys' got in lots
of tubing, kneeboarding, volleyball and football and everyone
had a great time. The boys' and I got around and left after
breakfast so we could get home to do chores and so the boys'
could get some rest. They played hard all weekend and bright
and early in the morning 2-a day football pratice starts for them!
Bernie and Cade stayed longer to help everyone get loaded up.
Most everything is carried in and put away, camping is always
a lot of work but everyone had a good time. We're all a little worse
for wear tonight tho and I'm sure our tails will be dragging for a few
days but it was great to see everyone.
